Thank you for your course which enabled my wife and I to realize our dream of fishing together in the ocean in our own boat!
My wife is excited and also trusting of me based on how I've approached it all using your teachings.
The confidence you gave me to no longer be an ocean wallflower will pay dividends forever!

After taking the course I now go out in the ocean much more than I do freshwater. This is because Charles did a great job teaching us and taking the mystery out of it while instilling the confidence I needed.

What's Inside the Coastal Mariner's Masterclass
Module #1 Course Road Map
We'll start by charting your path through the course, step-by-step, so you'll know what you will be learning and and why. The first modules will cover the Big 3 knowledge Building Blocks, namely Wind, Swell and Tide. Subsequent modules start bringing this knowledge together. Module 1 lays it all out so you know what to expect.
Module #2 - Wind
We'll start with wind, which is the easiest of the Big 3 knowledge Building Blocks to master.
You'll learn how the wind forecast translates to conditions on the water, and how plan your day accordingly. Reduce uncertainty by cross-checking various forecast models.
Module #3 - Swell
Swell is the most complex of and challenging of the Big 3 knowledge Building Blocks. You'll learn to look beyond the snapshot-type swell forecast and understand swell as a multi-day process with a beginning, middle and end. We'll cover what the forecasted height and period mean for your comfort on the ocean. You'll learn how swell is formed and how it interacts with chop. Most importantly we'll cut through the noise and learn to manage this biggest variable in your bar crossing planning.
Module #4 - Tide
In this hands-on module, you'll learn how tides affect you in your particular part of the world. I'll guide you through your local tide chart step-by-step so you understand your local tidal patterns, including little-known seasonal patterns and rules of thumb. You'll learn to use the predictablity of the tides to select the best days and time of day for your boating days and bar/inlet crossings.
Module #5 - Crossing the Bar
Armed with the Big 3 knowledge Building Blocks, you'll now learn what a bar is and why it is dangerous. Most importantly, you'll learn how to plan safe crossings and stay out of trouble.
Whether your crossing the Noosa Bar in Australia, Haulover Inlet in Florida, Hatteras Inlet in North Carolina, or the Tillamook Bar in Oregon, the issues are similar.
Module #6 - On the Open Sea
Beyond the bar, your day can span many miles, hours and sea conditions. You'll learn to use your new knowledge, coupled with the best forecast sites, to plan safe and comfortable days.
Module #7 - Before and After Your Trip
It's a rookie mistake to be blindsided by conditions before and after your schedule trip. You'll learn why the night before matters, as does the night after your trip. This module further integrates your Building Block knowledge to include the before and after in your planning.
Module #8 - The Go- or No-Go Checklist System
With mastery of all the necessary Building Blocks in place, you'll learn a step-by-step framework for deciding when it's safe and comfortable to go to sea. This framework will seem very simple and intuitive, but only because you've learned so much. Congratulations, this is where your had work comes together. You can now make the go- or no-go decision with confidence, on any of the world's oceans.

This Course is About Your Future Life of Adventure
There's a sea cave where I've backed my boat 80 feet into the rock face. When my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I noticed scores of sea birds nesting on the cave ceiling. Starfish and anenomes clung to the rock walls. Ferns and vines hung down from the entrance, dripping with spring water. No place on earth was as beautiful or moving to me.
I won't tell you where it is, because I know you'll find your own magical experiences on the ocean. If you've read this far, you have the heart and soul of a mariner. The ocean has been calling you. Don't let another season go by without heeding the call.
This course is about you and your future adventures. I would be honored to give you the skills, point you in the right direction, and step aside as you live into your own ocean story.
